The University of York Students’ Union (YUSU) represents over 18,000 students in York. Alongside providing a platform for students’ voices to be heard at the university and within the local community, YUSU provides and supports over 300 societies, sports clubs, and other student-led networks and activities. They strive to be fully inclusive, brave, and for, with, and by students.
The University of York has a hugely diverse range of students. YUSU’s core purpose is to represent every single one, which means catering to their different needs when communicating with them online. This includes providing language and accessibility support where possible, to make sure each student feels welcome and included in university life.
To support all students regardless of their accessibility or translation needs the University of York Students’ Union has added the Recite Me assistive technology toolbar to their website.
Offering a wide range of options allows all students and other website visitors to customise the website’s content in a way that works best for them.
Visitors are able to change the website’s styling options including font type and size, and change the text, links, and background colours. The toolbar also provides an online dictionary and thesaurus and enables visitors to choose for text to be translated on screen, or read aloud in over 100 languages.
Kick start your journey to make your website accessible and inclusive for everyone by exploring Recite Me’s suite of tools.
