Beyond Housing

Established in 2018, Scarborough-based housing organisation Beyond Housing, is one of the biggest in the North East region providing over 15,000 homes and a plethora of services that are available to over 30,000 customers who are living in Tees Valley and North Yorkshire.

With almost 800 colleagues making up the Beyond Housing family, they work together to achieve a goal of assisting their customers and communities to succeed and thrive.

Our Brief

Beyond Housing’s services are all delivered by people who are ambitious, who are considerate of those they provide to and by people who care. Beyond Housing are aware of the percentage of significant disabilities sits at 24% in the UK (The House of Commons Library). This can be a key factor in some of their customers not receiving the support they need, especially during a cost-of-living crisis.

Therefore, to continue championing its strategy of putting the people first, Beyond Housing knew that providing an inclusive digital platform would be crucial.

Our Solution

To deliver an inclusive homing service, Beyond Housing now provides their customers with Recite Me assistive technology so they can consider everyone who is in need of their support and resources.

Users of the Recite Me assistive toolbar can complete tasks such as translating information for those that speak English as a second language, reading aloud, and styling assistance. This includes changes to the colour, font type, and size.

The Beyond Housing website’s toolbar provides screen reading functionality, several reading aids, adjustable styling options, and an on-demand live translation service with over 100 languages and 65 text-to-speech and styling options.

“I have had a very good experience working with Beyond Housing since they upgraded their home page with new tools as part of their programme, ‘Believing in Accessibility for All. Now existing and new customers can access information with various different adjustments, including translation in many languages, some of them even in audio versions. Using the orange button at the right side of the screen labelled ‘access and language tools’, one can change colours, languages, play audio, choose the text and other options according to their needs.”
