London City Airport

London City Airport is taking a proactive approach to digital accessibility by using the Recite Me Accessibility Checker to identify and remove barriers across its websites, helping create a more inclusive online experience for passengers.

Accessibility has long been a priority for the airport, and while the European Accessibility Act (EAA) has reinforced its importance, London City Airport’s focus remains on continually improving the passenger experience.

Our Brief

For London City Airport, accessibility is about more than meeting legislation. It’s about making sure every passenger can use its digital services with confidence.

With a large and constantly evolving website, the team wanted a clear understanding of where accessibility barriers existed and how best to address them. The goal was to prioritise improvements, focus on the pages passengers rely on most and build a roadmap for continuous improvement.

Our Solution

London City Airport used the Recite Me Accessibility Checker to carry out a comprehensive audit of its websites against WCAG standards.

The Checker helped the team identify accessibility issues across its digital estate and prioritise improvements on the homepage, flight information, departures, arrivals and booking pages. This allowed the airport to tackle the most significant barriers first while creating a longer-term remediation plan.

The Accessibility Checker continues to support the airport’s accessibility journey by monitoring new content and helping prevent new barriers from being introduced as the website evolves. Combined with manual testing, it gives the team the insight needed to continually improve the digital experience for passengers.

We conducted a very comprehensive accessibility audit using the Recite Me Checker and identified specific accessibility gaps across our sites.

The Recite Me Checker allows us to scan large amounts of content quickly, but it’s beneficial to supplement its findings with manual testing.

Accessibility extends well beyond just compliance. It requires a strategic, user-centric approach and ongoing commitment.”
