The UK’s first disabled discount platform, Purpl, has taken on Recite Me assistive tools to support website visitors searching and acquiring discount codes for over 100 brands.

With £17.1 billion lost annually by retailers who ignore online disabled shoppers and their families (Click-Away Pound), it is important to ensure your e-commerce store is fully accessible to everyone regardless of abilities.

As a first-of-its-kind, Purpl Discounts is on a mission to fight for the disabled community, bringing discount offers to help offset the hidden costs of living with a disability.

There are many brands involved in offering discounts such as disability aid retailers like Betty & Bertie and ESE Direct, as well as fashion and beauty brands such as Accessorize, Cult Beauty and Simply Be. There are other brands including the likes of Dominos, Poundland, Curry’s and many more!

Purpl Discounts visitors can now use the Recite Me toolbar to customise their digital experience in a way that works best for them. This includes utilising screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids and an on-demand translation feature that boasts over 100 languages.

Georgina Colman, Founder of Purpl Discounts set up the platform to help people with disabilities with the cost of living.

From first-hand experience with multiple sclerosis (MS), Georgina knows the effects that having a disability can have on the cost of living, which led Georgina to set up Purpl discounts. Recite Me’s and Purpl’s missions align, as we both work to make the world a more accessible and supportive place for those with disabilities.

Georgina told us, “We saw Recite Me on one of our brand partners’ website – Poundland, I had an initial play and liked it! It seemed like a good tool that was fairly priced and easy to integrate!”

You can access the assistive tools on the Purpl Discounts website by selecting ‘Accessibility Tools’ in the top right of the website.

Georgina continued, “Accessibility is essential as our business is all about the disabled community but also because we work with many brands and we are hoping that we can encourage them to improve their accessibility online. Hence we have to be a role model for showcasing accessibility.”

Rob Sears, recently joined Purpl. Rob has a degenerative condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) which means he is classified as Severely Sight Impaired.

“Do you love a cheeky discount? For me, Purpl is a no-brainer – amazing discounts and savings for individuals with disabilities. And I get the feeling this is just scratching the surface.

“Offering products and services at discounted prices to make life easier and more affordable for those with disabilities will help so many people. Easy to join, easy to use and lots of help if you get stuck.

“Also, the website uses Recite Me which allows websites to become more accessible and inclusive for all users. It is a game changer.”
