International Day of Persons with Disabilities FAQs

International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a United Nations observance that raises awareness of disability rights, promotes inclusion, and celebrates the contributions of persons with disabilities across society.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities takes place every year on 3 December.

The day highlights the barriers persons with disabilities encounter in everyday life. This helps to encourage organisations and governments to take action towards a more inclusive society.

The United Nations General Assembly established the observance in 1992 through Resolution 47/3.

Digital accessibility makes websites and online content easier for people with different needs to access and use.

Businesses can improve accessibility by:

  • Auditing their website
  • Addressing WCAG compliance issues
  • Providing accessible documents
  • Reviewing workplace practices
  • Involving persons with disabilities in accessibility decisions
