Our Brief

Under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, all public sector websites must comply with WCAG 2.2 AA. For PPL, accessibility is not only a legal requirement but also a core part of their mission to ensure everyone can access vital health and social care information online.

While PPL had already taken steps towards digital accessibility, managing compliance across more than 40 domains presented significant challenges. Their teams needed a scalable, efficient way to identify, prioritise, and resolve issues without over-reliance on specialist resources.

Our Solution

PPL started using the Recite Me Accessibility Checker to streamline accessibility testing and compliance monitoring across its digital estate. The Checker provides a clear, detailed breakdown of issues, including:

  • A front-end screenshot of the problem
  • The relevant code snippet
  • Step-by-step guidance on how to resolve it
 

This practical insight enabled PPL’s digital delivery team to scan domains and raise tasks for developers directly, reducing their dependency on specialist accessibility testers.

Within just three months, PPL had scanned over 30 domains, resolved hundreds of issues, and significantly strengthened compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA. They also identified recurring issues across multiple sites, enabling them to fix problems at the template level and prevent them from reappearing in future implementations.
