Dogs for Good

For Dogs for Good, accessibility isn’t an afterthought. It’s a core part of how they support people every day.

When launching its new website, the team wanted to make sure it worked for everyone from day one. By introducing the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar, they’ve created a more inclusive digital experience, giving users the flexibility to engage with content in a way that suits them.

Our Brief

Accessibility was a key focus when Dogs for Good developed its new website. But this wasn’t about ticking a box.

The aim was to create something that genuinely works for the people the charity supports. This includes individuals with physical disabilities, adults with learning disabilities and families with autistic children, all of who may need to access content in different ways.

The goal was clear. Make the website easier to use, easier to navigate and more inclusive for everyone.

Our Solution

Dogs for Good introduced the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar across its website, giving users more control over how they experience content.

As a small team, it was important that the setup was straightforward and well supported, making it easy to get the Toolbar up and running.

Visitors can adjust the site to suit their needs. Some choose to listen to content being read aloud. Others change colours, fonts or spacing to make pages easier to read.

The ability to translate the website into over one hundred languages has also made a difference. It wasn’t something the team had initially planned for, but was highlighted early on and has since helped open up their content to a much wider audience.

The Toolbar also gives insight into how people are using the site. Early data shows strong engagement, with text-to-speech and styling options used regularly, helping to shape future improvements.

“The main thing that stood out to us about Recite Me is how people can use the accessibility toolbar to customise how the website looks so that it works better for them.

Our charity has a person-centred approach – we work with individuals to provide support that is unique to them and tailored to their needs, and so it’s great that our website can offer a similar, individualised experience too.

Translating our content into different languages isn’t something we’d considered when building our new website, so Recite Me pointing that out to us was really valuable – and even better that their toolbar can translate our website into over 100 different languages.

As a small team, it was good to know we’d have the extra support and expertise where needed.”
