British Judo Association

The British Judo Association is the National Governing Body for the Olympic and Paralympic sport of judo in Great Britain. In November 2024, British Judo took on the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar to work towards its ‘Adaptive Strategy’ that aims to improve digital accessibility to encourage physical activity, inclusion, competitiveness and wellbeing of the judo community who live with a complex range of abilities and disabilities.

Our Brief

Approximately, 16% of the global population has a disability, roughly 1 in 6 people, live with a disability. While sports are often associated with physical activity, much of the preparation and engagement happens online, especially when signing up to participate or attend events.

Understanding that their website serves as the primary point of contact for many, British Judo aimed to create an inclusive digital experience. Their goal was to eliminate accessibility barriers, ensuring that disabled individuals could easily engage with the sport and participate in events without limitations.

Our Solution

By incorporating the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar across its main website, the British Judo Association offers a customisable digital experience for all visitors. Users can choose to use a screen reader, reading aids, styling options, and translation tools to make reading and understanding information on the British Judo website easy.

“We’ve been working closely with our accessibility community to look at ways in which we can improve our digital experience, and the implementation of Recite Me has been fantastic. It’s extremely intuitive, and our user feedback has called out the ease of use and variety of options within the toolbar as really big game changers from our previous offering. It’s been great to roll this out across our portfolio.”
