Recite Me is very lucky to work with so many wonderful clients on their journey to become digitally inclusive for all users. One is Birmingham Hospice, a health care provider that has put patients at the heart of their work for over 157 years.

For over 12 months, Birmingham Hospice has been working with Recite Me, incorporating the Recite Me toolbar on the Birmingham Hospice website to help them achieve their goal of guaranteeing accessibility of its content and services for individuals with disabilities who require additional access needs.

Birmingham Hospice has around 800 patients in its care on average every day across its services.  To ensure no one was left behind, Birmingham Hospice added the Recite Me assistive Toolbar to its website. The ability to enable an on-demand screen reader if you are visually impaired or change the website’s look will help online users book a referral or discover help barrier-free.

Communications and Marketing Manager, David Aust, spoke about their mission for inclusion, saying, “At Birmingham Hospice we welcome everyone, no matter their age, gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity or condition, to be able to access the care of their choice at the end of life.

“Following the merger of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and John Taylor Hospice and our subsequent rebranding as Birmingham Hospice, we created a new website from scratch, which provided an opportunity to ensure it was still meeting the needs of our audience, including with regard to inclusion and accessibility.”

The Recite Me toolbar allows us to ensure the information we provide about our services is available to everyone; for example, those who are blind or visually impaired, or people from Birmingham’s diverse communities who would benefit from translation services.”

As well as regularly updating its accessibility statement, Birmingham Hospice has also invested in the bespoke Recite Me Checker, which scans your domain in accordance with the WCAG accessibility guidelines and provides you with feedback and on-demand changes to work on.
