We caught up with Peeps to find out how they drive digital inclusion and why International Day of People with Disabilities is important to them....
Young Scot is a Scottish Youth charity which embraces the power of social media to keep teenagers informed about the latest and relevant news in Scotland. The formation of Young Scot came in 1981, founded by Marcus Liddle OBE whose goal was to support young people to thrive and make the most of their lives as they grow up. This mission has stayed true in everything Young Scot has done because, in the last year alone, Young Scot connected and engaged with over 29 million young people.
Inclusion is at the core of Young Scot’s work as they deliver information to a wide range of visitors. Young Scot are aware that the disability prevalence right now sits at 1 in 5 across Scotland, with that figure rising year by year. That being said, it was Young Scot’s responsibility to find the tools to build inclusive pathways online so that all of the youth could benefit from their resources. But how would they do this?
Young Scot has introduced the youth to the award-winning Recite Me toolbar to support them on their digital platform.
Young Scot will now be able to provide National Entitlement Card applications, weekly updates and post articles barrier-free.
Recite Me’s assistive technology comes equipped with numerous amount of tools to eliminate online barriers including a screen reader, styling and customisation tools, a set of reading aids and an online translator with up to 100 languages, 65 of which can be read aloud.
