Our Brief

Public sector bodies in the UK are legally required to ensure their websites and mobile applications meet accessibility standards. Humberside Fire & Rescue had already taken a proactive approach by implementing the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar, which supports users with diverse needs. As they continued to grow their digital presence, they recognised the need for a robust, ongoing solution to monitor and maintain compliance across all web content.

Our Solution

To further their accessibility goals, they implemented the Recite Me Checker, an auditing tool that scans web content for compliance with WCAG 2.2 standards. The Checker identifies the most impactful issues, helping the team prioritise fixes efficiently based on effort and impact.

By integrating the Checker into their workflow, their team regularly scan the site, manages an accessibility fix queue, and tracks ongoing improvements. This proactive approach ensures that newly added content meets the same high standards as existing pages, reinforcing their commitment to inclusion across their entire digital estate.

For a service that provides life-saving information, accessibility is not optional; it’s essential. With Recite Me’s tools, Humberside Fire & Rescue ensures that everyone in their community, regardless of ability, can access important fire safety advice, emergency updates, and service announcements online.

“The Recite Me Checker has been a game-changer for us in ensuring our online content is accessible. Easy to use and packed with helpful guidance, it’s been a real asset in meeting government standards for website accessibility. We wanted a tool to regularly check our site’s accessibility, especially as we add new pages. After looking at different options, we were impressed by Recite Me’s Checker and their dedication to improving website accessibility.”
