Audience Questions
For large organizations serving 50,000+ populations, the deadline is April 26th, 2027.
For smaller organizations and special districts serving less than 50,000+, the deadline is April 26th, 2028.
There is a couple of ways but one is demonstrating the effort that you are putting in as an organization, one being creating an accessibility statement to showcase where your organization is on their accessibility journey. What a great message to send out to your audiences and potentially disabled people coming to your sites as well that you actually genuinely care about making their experience good for them.
So I think for us, when we’re trying to balance that transparency and honesty, there’s obviously certain things that you won’t put on there. One of them is, for example, if you’ve got industry secrets or trade secrets or particular things that are going to expose your business in areas that, you know, are protected. But I think when you’re looking at the general usability of something and you are transparent and open, that’s going to lead to much more positive conversations where you are able to get more information and learn a little bit more around your users, or your clients, before making any assumptions.
So for me, it’s about commitment and demonstrating accessibility commitment. There are obviously some other bits that you could put on there around third parties, for example. So if you are working with third-party vendors that are providing things like your booking processes, or for example account logins and bits where usually they’re third-party bought in. Those, generally are an opportunity for you to identify that you’re working with other third parties to make sure that they are also taking into account accessibility.
So, I think for us, when we look at those transparency and honesty. I would probably champion that. We want our clients to be trusting us. We want our clients to kind of be respecting our efforts, making sure that they feel valued in their journey coming to your site, and your accessibility statement is effectively that front door, letting people know that that’s what you’re about.
Yes, you need to clean up previous and current PDFs to make sure future PDFs are accessible.
The title II mandate allows for exemptions for archiving documents. A good starting point for understanding what’s in scope and what might need to be archived. For example, if your parks and recreation department created a department 3 years ago for a Turkey Truck they were hosting, that is fine but your constituents most likely don’t need access to that information anymore since it is no longer relevant – which would be good to archive.
The key is to learn about your PDF estate and think about what you, as an organization, must have on your website and what PDFs are most pertinent to your residents and what needs to be archived.
The Recite Me Accessibility Checker is a software license and in order to get all of the context around the accessibility violations, you would need to purchase that software subscription from us.
