20 Stories High is a theatre based in the heart of Liverpool that believes in creating bold, excellent theatre experiences with culturally diverse, working-class communities. In 2023, they took this commitment one step further by working with Recite Me to create an inclusive digital platform. Since then, 20 Stories High has received positive feedback internally and externally, proving that assistive technology transforms experiences.

A Theatre Where Everyone’s Story Matters

20 Stories High has long operated on a powerful principle: “Everyone has a story to tell… and their own way of telling it.”

Inclusion is a huge part of 20 Stories High and is one of the key pillars. Their partnership with Recite Me helps break down online barriers for individuals who are neurodiverse, visually impaired or who speak English as a second language, opening the world of theatre to all.

“Making sure the people we interact with from youth theatre, staff members, freelancers, and audiences can access information in the way that they need it is key for us. It’s about meeting people where they are and being a learning organisation.”

Technology Meets Real Needs

20 Stories High implemented the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar to enable everyone to access information without needing someone else to facilitate this. This customisable tool empowers users by giving them greater control over how they interact with content.

With the Recite Me Toolbar, users can convert text-to-speech for easier reading, adjust font sizes and colour contrast for better visibility and translate content into multiple languages for better comprehension.

Maisy Gordon, Communications and Campaigns Coordinator, 20 Stories High, uses Recite Me every day to help her with her work, allowing her to independently change content to suit her own needs. Maisy continued:

“I handle all of the marketing and comms at 20 Stories High, and I personally use the Recite Me tool on a daily basis. I find the option to turn the website to monochrome really useful when dealing with brain fog, migraines or fatigue associated with my disabilities.

“I also find the increased font size and focus text options to be really helpful for processing information quickly and easily. Recite Me allows me to carry out my work efficiently and confidently without having to ask for help.”

An Inclusive Future in the Theatre Industry

20 Stories High’s commitment to accessibility is about opening up the theatre experience to all. By integrating Recite Me’s tools, they have transformed their platform into a space where everyone can engage without barriers.

We’re proud to play a part in their story, and we’re excited to help more organisations do the same. For more information on how you can utilise Recite Me’s selection of accessibility tools, contact a member of our team today.
