The Bar Standards Board is the first legal regulator in England and Wales to introduce Recite Me assistive technology to help educate future and current barristers of all backgrounds.

The Bar Standards Board is a body that regulates barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales.

You can see why inclusion was a top priority for the Bar Standards Board. Their website is a go-to hub of training and information for barristers, legal professionals, their clients, the general public and anyone interested in pursuing a career at the Bar. These resources need to be accessible to all web users, regardless of their background and ability; hence, Recite Me was implemented.

Commenting on the development Mark Neale, the Director General of the Bar Standards Board, said, “At the BSB, we are determined to promote equality, access and inclusivity. I am therefore delighted that this new software will make our website more accessible for the many people for whom English is not their first language and for those with disabilities or who are neurodivergent.”

The translation feature is one of the core features of the Recite Me toolbar, which assists 7% of the UK population that are proficient in English but do not speak it as their main language in digesting and consuming information online in a way that suits them best.

The assistive toolbar also comes equipped with a bespoke set of reading aids, styling and customisation options, as well as a screen reader that can read content in over 65 different languages.

Alongside the adoption of Recite Me on the Bar Standards Board, the Bar Council has also taken on our assistive tools to make its website more inclusive for all.

We are delighted to have the Bar Standards Board with us for 2024 as they become the first legal regulator in England and Wales to utilise Recite Me assistive technology.
