What Does Accessibility Mean To Me is a time for us to come together and to get everyone talking and learning about accessibility, diversity, and...
Hovertravel UK is the world’s only year-round hovercraft service and is based in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. It operates 2, 78 seater, fully accessible hovercrafts and Hovertravel UK completes over 70 flights per day! What once began as a seasonal summer service in 1965 has become a vital route from Southsea & Ryde for passengers, patients and teachers alike. Not to mention, Hovertravel UK works with the likes of Royal Mail to deliver parcels and during the pandemic, they developed an award-winning rapid off-island stretcher patient transfer with the NHS and ambulance services.
Hovercare, a remarkable accessibility effort introduced by Hovertravel UK in 2016, comprises expert training, community engagement, and structural and service modifications to make its service as accessible as possible. Hovertravel UK then determined that 50-70% of all bookings were done straight through their website, implying that their technology needed to be completely inclusive. So, how was Hovertravel UK going to ensure an all-inclusive client experience for all of its passengers?
Hovercare UK’s solution came in the form of the award-winning Recite Me Toolbar which is now available on the Hovercare UK website.
The Recite Me toolbar has a suite of customisable options to suit the widest variety of abilities including those with vision and motor disabilities, cognitive and neurological disorders as well as those who don’t speak English as a first language.
Recite Me’s Assistive Technology comes equipped with a screen reader, a set of reading aids, styling and customisation options as well as a translator with up to 100 languages, 65 of which can be read aloud!
