Everyone Active

Everyone Active is the longest-established leisure operator in the UK, managing over 200 leisure and cultural centres in partnership with more than 60 different local authorities. Its mission is to encourage everyone to participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity either in a centre or via online training, five times per week. To help achieve its mission, Everyone Active wanted to grant unlimited access to online fitness information and services, by implementing accessibility and language tools.

Our Brief

Statistics reveal that approximately 15% of the population is neurodiverse which may impact an individual’s ability to read and understand online information (Open University). As part of Everyone Active commitment to being a fitness provider that goes the extra mile to encourage all to participate in physical activity. They wanted to ensure they broke down the online barriers for those with disabilities, learning difficulties, visual impairments, and those who speak English as a second language.

Our Solution

Everyone Active implemented Recite Me assistive technology to ensure accessibility to all. In the past month (August), over 30,000 people have used the Recite Me toolbar on the Everyone Active website to read and understand essential fitness information. Features of the toolbar include translating content into different languages, reading aloud, and styling assistance.
