Join us as we take a look into EDI in football and explore how improving inclusion online can unite communities of players and fans....
Basketball Ireland (B.I.) is the national governing body of Basketball on the island of Ireland. Part of FIBA, the World Governing body, B.I. is responsible for the promotion and administration of basketball throughout Ireland and Irish international participation. Irish Basketball was affiliated with FIBA in 1947 and basketball became firmly established as a recognised sport in Ireland.
Basketball Ireland has always been committed to inclusion and is continuously looking at ways to become more accessible in every facet of its organisation. B.I. has recently launched a Disability Inclusion Policy for 2020-2024 which will see them implementing this policy to support and develop an inclusive environment for children and adults within our clubs, programmes, coaches, volunteers, and players. To continue and push this inclusion policy forward they wanted to focus on digital accessibility and the ability to enable everyone to access key basketball information on their website easily.
To support everyone visiting the Basketball Ireland website to access information barrier-free, Basketball Ireland now provides assistive technology. With the support of the Recite Me accessibility and language toolbar, the B.I. website is now an inclusive platform for people with disabilities, learning difficulties, visual impairments, and for people who speak English as a second language.
This innovative accessibility software will help bring people closer to the sport by enabling everyone to read and engage with content in a way that suits their individual needs.
The Recite Me toolbar provides options to enable full control of the website through a screen reader, fully customisable styling options, reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices.
