Forgotten Harvest implemented the Recite Me toolbar in December 2022 and has been breaking down online digital barriers ever since.

Established in 1990 to fight hunger and food insecurity, Forgotten Harvest is a non-profit food rescue organization that collects food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to organizations feeding the hungry in Metro Detroit.

Forgotten Harvest delivers 144,000 pounds of surplus food per day to local charities five days a week, providing families in need with fresh and nutritious food free of charge.

With approximately 735 million people finding themselves in a state of chronic hunger or experiencing food insecurity, making sure food information and online resources are available and accessible to every person is crucial.

People who needed food assistance the most and who were not able to access the information in the past are now able to get the information they need on the Forgotten Harvest website by utilizing the Recite Me accessibility and language toolbar.

“At Forgotten Harvest, we are happy to share that we are using the Recite Me toolbar and are happy with its functionality. We have many different nationalities and languages in our metro Detroit community and the Recite Me features make our website more accessible to everyone.”

In the last 12 months, there have been over 26,000 clicks on the translation tool on the Forgotten Harvest website, which includes translations into Ukrainian and Spanish.

In addition to an on-demand translation tool with over 100 languages, Recite Me’s assistive technology comes equipped with a screen reader, styling and customization options, and a set of reading aids, which includes the brand-new and recently released ‘Focused Text’ tool.

Over 5,000 websites currently use Recite Me assistive technology, which includes Food Banks and Pantrys such as Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Food Bank of Delaware, and many more.
