Columbia Metropolitan Airport

Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is making it easier for every passenger to access important travel information online with the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar.

As part of its wider commitment to accessible travel, CAE introduced Recite Me to give passengers more choice in how they interact with airport information, from planning their journey and checking flight information to preparing for their time at the airport.

Our Brief

For CAE, accessibility is about more than making physical spaces accessible. The airport wanted to ensure passengers could also access the information they need to plan and navigate their journey online.

Travel can involve a lot of information, from flight details and parking options to security procedures, accessibility services and airport amenities. CAE recognized that passengers have different needs when accessing this information and wanted to provide greater flexibility and choice.

CAE already had a strong record on in-person accessibility. It was the first airport in South Carolina to adopt the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program. Staff, public safety teams, concessionaires, tenants, and airline partners have all been trained to recognise and support travellers who choose to wear a sunflower lanyard or bracelet.

The next step was extending that commitment to the digital experience.

Our Solution

CAE chose the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar for its broad range of accessibility features, ease of integration with the airport’s existing website, and the ongoing customer support available.

Visitors can use it to personalize the site to suit their needs. Text-to-speech allows passengers to read flight information and FAQs aloud, and on-page translation helps visiting travellers plan their trip in their own language.

Together with the Sunflower Program, the toolbar helps CAE offer a consistent, inclusive experience from the first website visit to the departure gate.

We’re focused on empowering every passenger with the tools and resources needed to garner information about a flight, to book a flight and to safely and conveniently travel through our airport.

We are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment with Recite Me that ensures all travelers, regardless of their needs, have a seamless experience from garage to gate.“
