Voluntary Product Accessibility Template FAQs

The Voluntary Product Accessibility Template, is a template used by organizations to describe the accessibility features and compliance of their products, particularly in relation to laws such as Section 508. It helps buyers, especially government agencies, assess whether a product meets accessibility requirements.

Anyone can complete a VPAT for your organization. This means you can use any member of your in-house team. However, it can be highly beneficial to consult with accessibility experts to help audit the accessibility of your products and assist with the drafting of a VPAT or ACR document.

The main difference between a VPAT and an ACR is that a VPAT is a template used to create an ACR, while an ACR is a report that documents a product’s accessibility.

The VPAT is most commonly used to address the standards outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. However, other standards that the VPAT can apply to include the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and EN 301 549.
