Dumb Friends League

For over 100 years, the Dumb Friends League has worked to end pet homelessness and animal suffering by providing life-changing services for homeless pets and horses. Every day, the Dumb Friends League takes in animals who arrive in need of medical treatment, behavior training, foster care, and the opportunity to find loving homes.

With six facilities, the Dumb Friends League is the largest independent, nonprofit community-based animal shelter/humane society in the Rocky Mountain region.

Our Brief

61 million (1 in 4) people in the United States live with a disability that can prevent them from accessing and consuming content online. To ensure their online information and services were accessible, inclusive, and customizable for everyone in their community, the Dumb Friends League sought a solution that would allow all web users to access the information and services offered through their website without barriers.

Our Solution

The Dumb Friends League implemented Recite Me accessibility and language support tools. The Recite Me assistive toolbar enables all website visitors, regardless of their differing abilities or language needs, to customize the DDFL.org website in a way that works best for them.

Recite Me assistive technology includes screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, customizable styling options, and an on-demand live transition feature that boasts over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech.

Over the past 12 months, the Recite Me toolbar has helped 23,874 unique users explore information and resources on the Dumb Friends League website. On average, users view 10 pages per session, which is much higher than the average journey depth of 2.8 pages.
