Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Stockport Council is the local authority for over 220,000 residents across Greater Manchester. With a DigiKnow Network Program that aims to promote digital inclusion, Stockport Council took on the Recite Me tools to help adults who lack the basic digital skills needed to thrive in today’s digital age.

Our Brief

With the launch of the DigiKnow program in 2023, Stockport Council was at the beginning of a push to ensure all Stockport residents had the devices, connectivity and skills to get online for the first time and use the internet to do things that benefit them daily.

Our Solution

By incorporating the Recite Me toolbar across its website, Stockport Council could ensure residents could read and understand information on bin collections, street lighting, libraries, leisure centres and much more with ease. Users can now choose from using a screenreader, reading aids, styling options and translation tools to make using the internet simple.

“We care deeply about making sure that everyone can access our services equally. That's why we have the Recite Me toolbar on our website to make it user-friendly and inclusive for as many people as possible, and why we're helping people overcome the challenges of getting online through our DigiKnow community digital inclusion network, which is doing great things."

Councillor Jilly Julian
Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, Stockport Council
