Destination Gippsland

Destination Gippsland is the official regional tourism board for Gippsland, Victoria, helping visitors discover, plan, and book their perfect getaway in the region. With digital channels playing a key role in travel planning, ensuring information is accessible to a wide audience is central to how they connect with potential visitors online.

Guided by a commitment to inclusion, Destination Gippsland introduced the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar to support a more accessible online experience for everyone.

Our Brief

As a regional tourism board, Destination Gippsland wanted to ensure their website worked effectively for everyone considering a trip to the region. Inclusivity is a core value of the organisation, and this needed to be reflected in how visitors access information and plan their stay online.

With audiences visiting the site from different locations, devices, and backgrounds, the team identified the need to reduce barriers for users with access requirements, neurodiverse visitors, and those who speak English as a second language.

Our Solution

To bring this vision to life, Destination Gippsland implemented the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar across their website. The Toolbar offers customisation and language options, enabling users to personalise their experience using features such as text-to-speech, translation tools, and custom styling options.

A key factor in the decision was how seamlessly the Toolbar integrates with the existing website, particularly on mobile. With most visitors accessing content on their phones, ensuring a smooth and intuitive mobile experience was essential, allowing accessibility features to enhance, rather than disrupt, the user journey.

“As a regional tourism board, inclusivity is important to us, and we wanted everyone to be able to easily find information and book their stay.

Recite Me is easy to use, has all-in-one accessibility and language options that integrate seamlessly with our existing website. Most importantly, it works well with our mobile site, which is the way most people consume our content.

We’ve had positive feedback from guests who appreciate the accessibility and translation features. It’s reassuring to know the Toolbar helps visitors navigate our site more comfortably and confidently.”
