West Midlands Trains (operator of West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway) has implemented Recite Me assistive technology online to give website visitors full access to online information in a way that is suited to their needs.

The Recite Me accessibility and language tools are now installed on both the West Midlands Railway (WMR) and London Northwestern Railway (LNR) websites.

Over 13 million people in the UK (around 20% of the population) have disabilities that make accessing online content challenging. This means that many individuals do not have access to the tools they need to carry out day-to-day online tasks such as checking finances online or booking their next train ticket.

In 2020-21, West Midlands Trains were responsible for 13.6 million passenger journeys, therefore it was vital to provide support to create a unique online experience for each website visitor.

Peter Williamson, Accessibility Strategy & Projects Manager at West Midlands Trains commented,

“West Midlands Trains is very excited to adopt Recite Me on both the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway websites, including the digital Delay Repay forms to assist customers registering compensation claims.

We’re always looking at ways in which we can develop our products and services to ensure they meet the needs of our customers and increase inclusivity. We welcome any feedback customers may have when using the tool. Feedback can be submitted via our Live Feedback form on either of our websites.”

The Recite Me toolbar on the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway websites provides a suite of customisable options including, screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, customisable styling options, and an on-demand live translation feature that boasts over 100 languages including 65 text-to-speech.
