See our Toolbar in action
Book a DemoThroughout 2026, we’ve continued to develop the Recite Me Assistive Toolbar to give people more choice over their online experience. With five new features and ten enhancements so far, and 10 feature enhancements, here are some of the highlights.
NEW: A clearer view with high-contrast icons
Our latest update lets you choose yellow, white or black toolbar icons, alongside the existing multicoloured options.
Different colours help many people distinguish between tools, while others find a high-contrast appearance easier to see. The feature may be particularly useful for people with low vision, colour vision differences or eye conditions such as cataracts, which can make it harder to distinguish details or certain colour combinations.
Preferences vary from person to person, so you can explore the options and choose the appearance that makes the toolbar clearest and most comfortable for you.
These new options give you more flexibility to choose a look that suits you, including if you have low vision or find certain colour combinations difficult to distinguish.
Use your voice to control the toolbar
Voice Control introduces another way to use the toolbar. You can activate features with spoken commands, such as “Increase Text Size”, or choose numbered controls and say the number of the tool you want.
It gives you an alternative to using a mouse or keyboard to control toolbar features. You choose whether to switch it on and which command style you prefer.
Discover features with Smart Suggest
With several tools to choose from, knowing where to start can help. Smart Suggest looks at the content on a page and gently highlights features that may be useful.
On a text-heavy page, it might suggest reading support. On a shopping page, it could highlight text size or colour options.
The suggestions respond to the content you’re viewing, without assuming what you need. You remain in control of which features to try, and you can turn suggestions off.
Find your focus with Focus Audio
Developed through a collaboration with students at the Orpheus Centre, our Focus Audio feature offers gentle background sound to support concentration.
Students helped shape the idea and selected the audio through research and feedback within their college community. For people who find sound helpful when reading or processing information, it offers another way to create a comfortable online environment.
Make reading support your own
We’ve also added more ways to personalise the Ruler and Screen Mask.
You can now adjust the Ruler’s size and turn gridlines on or off. A new vertical Screen Mask helps you focus on a column of content, such as a table or comparison page. An optional coloured edge adds another visual guide to the reading area.
More flexibility in everyday use
Other updates include the option to hide the toolbar while zoomed in, enlarge sign language videos and keep the User Guide open while trying features. Language search improvements also make it easier to find your preferred language.
Each update builds on the same principle: people should be able to explore their options and choose what works for them.
Next time you open the Recite Me toolbar, try something new or adjust a familiar feature to make it your own.
