What sort of support does the Nelms Foundation provide?<\/b><\/h3><ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Teacher Training<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 The most important nationwide teacher training need is to provide the specialized training teachers need to teach students with dyslexia how to read.\u00a0 We offer teacher training on many levels\u00a0 &#8211; all the way from intensive Certified Academic Language Therapists, which is a 2-year training beyond a Master\u2019s degree, to Certified Academic Language Practitioners which is a 1-year training beyond their bachelor\u2019s degree and basic awareness and professional development.\u00a0 We believe all teachers should be trained and knowledgeable about dyslexia and how to spot it.\u00a0 For those students diagnosed with dyslexia, we believe they need and deserve to be taught by a teacher that has been specially trained to work with them<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Dyslexia Assessments<\/strong> \u2013 In addition to teacher training, the center also provides other support, including dyslexia assessments.\u00a0 We see students from kindergarten to college, and some adults well into their careers, for dyslexia assessments.\u00a0 We gather background and family information and then take them through a set of questions, tests, and exercises.\u00a0 Our Assessors then analyze the results and identify areas of strength and weakness and then, if appropriate, we provide an educational diagnosis of dyslexia.\u00a0 Our assessments help identify what the individual needs to become a better reader and how to help them.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-09dd9ee disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"09dd9ee\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-1692e6f\" data-id=\"1692e6f\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8815f7f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8815f7f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Reading Therapy<\/strong> \u2013 Based on a student\u2019s assessment and dyslexia profile, we will recommend a curriculum and pair them with a therapist at our center that best meets their learning needs.\u00a0 It\u2019s typically a 2-year commitment for the family and student and over that time, meaningful and lasting relationships are often formed between the family and the therapist because it is truly a life changing experience for not only the student but the entire family.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Community Outreach<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 We offer informational classes for the community to bring more awareness and understanding of what dyslexia is.\u00a0 We also offer support groups for parents so they\u2019re able to connect and learn from each other.\u00a0 Families can feel very alone in their journey, but there are many families out there facing similar obstacles, so we encourage them to connect.\u00a0 We also have a group of adults with dyslexia that meet at the center.\u00a0 They\u2019re able to share their experiences and learn from each other.- Beyond teaching students with dyslexia how to read, we believe that one of the most important elements of their success is helping them discover their strengths and rebuilding their self-esteem.\u00a0 We are developing this program currently with partners and are excited about it!<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8fc5912 disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8fc5912\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ac6ba9d\" data-id=\"ac6ba9d\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-717b1b7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"717b1b7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>3. What is commonly misunderstood about dyslexia?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Having dyslexia doesn&#8217;t mean pepople aren&#8217;t smart. It means they have trouble with reading and other skills that involve language. Signs of Dyslexia show up differently at different ages. For example, for preschool aged kids, this might look like a child having trouble learning nursery rhymes or singing the alphabet. For tweens, teens, and adults, this can look like someone who often searches for words or uses substitutes like &#8216;gate&#8217; instead of &#8216;fence&#8217;, or finding it easier to answer questions about texts that are read aloud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, dyslexia is lifelong, and with the right support, people can improve their reading. Many thriving adults with dyslexia say it helped them be more creative and resilient. <\/span><\/p><h3><b>4.
