The City of Staunton<\/a> recently took significant steps toward inclusivity and accessibility with the implementation of Recite Me technology<\/a> on its website. This initiative highlights Staunton\u2019s dedication to creating a community where everyone can access and benefit from online resources.<\/strong><\/p>

The City of Staunton Prioritizes Equal Access<\/h2>

As a culturally rich and historic city with a diverse population, the City of Staunton prides itself on being welcoming, innovative, and diverse. City officials are committed to breaking down barriers that limit opportunities for individuals with disabilities or who speak English as a second language. <\/p>

In 2021, the Staunton City Council formed a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission made up of community members chosen by the Council to represent the diverse interests of the Staunton community. Through this Commission, a disparity in how online information was distributed and accessed within the community was brought to the City Council\u2019s attention. <\/p>

Before adopting the Recite Me toolbar<\/a> on its website, City officials recognized a significant barrier on their website; a large portion of their content is PDF documents that might not be accessible to everyone.<\/p>
