However, there is still work to be done in raising awareness so we can create equal opportunities and provide equitable online experiences for everyone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3082466 disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3082466\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a6d1a45\" data-id=\"a6d1a45\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-150d0d0 disable-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"150d0d0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>What is a Developmental Disability?<\/h2><p>The CDC defines developmental disabilities as:<\/p><p>\u201cA group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas.\u201d<\/p><p>As the name would suggest, developmental disabilities typically first occur during the developmental period &#8211; the first 18 years of life before an individual reaches adulthood. In general, developmental disabilities fall into four main categories:<\/p><ol><li>Nervous system disorders<\/li><li>Sensory-related disabilities<\/li><li>Metabolic disorders<\/li><li>Degenerative disorders<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-0659f00 disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"0659f00\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-710de6a\" data-id=\"710de6a\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-99ccb3d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"99ccb3d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Different Types of Developmental Disabilities<\/h2><p>The number of conditions included under the umbrella of developmental disabilities is wide-ranging. Some common examples include:<\/p><ul><li>Down syndrome<\/li><li>Fragile X syndrome<\/li><li>Autism Spectrum Disorder<\/li><li>Williams\u2019s Syndrome<\/li><li>Phenylketonuria (PKU)<\/li><li>Aspergers<\/li><li>Rett syndrome<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-69b65af disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"69b65af\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-614e623\" data-id=\"614e623\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd9e938 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd9e938\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>There are others, of course. And, there\u2019s a veritable alphabet soup of different terms used to describe those who don\u2019t learn at the same rate as their peers. Along with developmental disability, you\u2019ve probably heard of the terms \u2018learning disability\u2019 and \u2018learning disorder.\u2019 However, these broad terms aren\u2019t particularly helpful in identifying the many and varied problems that people face, and there\u2019s much contention over precisely what is characterized as a developmental disability.<\/p><p>For example, specific difficulties with language, numbers, and spatial awareness are typically classed as learning disorders rather than developmental disabilities and include many conditions that perhaps you\u2019d expected to find on the list above, including:<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/reciteme.com\/us\/news\/dyslexia-friendly-fonts\/\">Dyslexia<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/reciteme.com\/us\/news\/web-accessibility-dyspraxia-supporting-neurodiversity-online\/\">Dyspraxia<\/a><\/li><li>Dysgraphia<\/li><li>Dyscalculia<\/li><li>Hyperlexia<\/li><li>Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/reciteme.com\/us\/news\/assistive-technology-for-adhd\/\">Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder<\/a> (ADHD)<\/li><\/ul><p>Classification debates aside, the takeaway factor is that everyone learns differently, and support mechanisms must be in place for individuals with brains and bodies that function differently from \u2018the norm\u2019.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-9cc913d disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"9cc913d\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3a819e3\" data-id=\"3a819e3\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-34f9f92 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"34f9f92\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>The Importance of Disability Inclusion in Everyday Life<\/h2><p>Disabilities often affect entire families and friendship groups. Statistics show that overall, one in every four Americans has a disability, so the impacts of disability will have touched most of our lives at one point or another.<\/p><p>Adapting to meet the complex needs of someone with a developmental disability can put their extended circle under significant emotional and financial stress.
