So let&#8217;s take a look at the top accessibility stories of 2023.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ff0c1dd disable-default elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ff0c1dd\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-736db55\" data-id=\"736db55\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8110521 elementor-widget__width-inherit disable-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8110521\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Landmark Rule on Digital Accessibility by the Justice Department<\/h2><p>On the 33rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Department of Justice (DOJ) published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-advances-proposed-rule-strengthen-web-and-mobile-app-access-people\">Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to update regulations for Title II of the ADA<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/odr.dc.gov\/page\/ada-title-ii-state-and-local-government-overview#:~:text=Title%20II%20protects%20qualified%20individuals,services%2C%20programs%2C%20or%20activities.\">Title II of the ADA<\/a> aims to improve web and mobile application access for individuals with disabilities and clarify how public entities, such as state and local government agencies, can meet their existing ADA obligations as many of the activities shift online.\u00a0<\/p><p>The proposal defined digital accessibility requirements for the first time in the history of the ADA. If the rule moves forward as projected, there will be a seismic shift from accessibility being a market differentiator to it being a market eliminator in key markets. involved enhancing access across as many touchpoints as possible such as:<\/p><ul><li>Large print Programs<\/li><li>Braille Programs<\/li><li>Projected English translations &#8211; the performance was sung in Italian with projected English translations.<\/li><li>Audio Description &#8211; live descriptions of the stage action for those with visual impairments were provided.<\/li><li>Wheelchair Spaces\u00a0<\/li><li>Assistive Listening System &#8211; assistive listening devices were made available to enhance the sound of the performances.\u00a0<\/li><li>Website Accessibility and Language Tool &#8211; to further enhance inclusivity, the <a href=\"https:\/\/reciteme.com\/us\/product\/assistive-toolbar\/\">Recite Me toolbar<\/a> was integrated into the website, empowering everyone to fully engage in the captivating world of opera.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>If that wasn\u2019t enough, Cincinnati Opera also hosted a sensory-friendly piano rehearsal of the <strong>Barber of Seville<\/strong> production. Plan geared towards making Canada barrier-free by 2040.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>Aligned with the goals of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/employment-social-development\/programs\/accessible-canada\/act-summary.html\">Accessible Canada Act<\/a>, the Accessibility Action Plan details the steps the GAC will take to eliminate and prevent obstacles hindering the full participation and contribution of individuals with
